Medical ethics from Islamic perspective is one of major focus of IMANA. Many of our work-place colleagues, faith-based hospital liaisons, and hospital-based ethics committees struggle with issues related to medical ethics in their Muslim patients as well as IMANA members dealing with patients of other faiths. We hope to develop a two-prong strategy, education and research, to deal with this gap in knowledge and understanding. We intend to provide educational seminars for faith-based leaders, including imams, priests, and rabbis on their role in hospital ethics committees and in patient-physician interaction. We also plan to provide health care providers material and educational opportunities in Islamic Medical Ethics to better understand and provide best practices in their dealings with the Muslim patient. We will seek out religious scholars and ethics experts in answering case-based scenarios and have this research published for growth and understanding.
